Code of Ethics
The following principles are intended to assist members of the Seattle Turtle and Tortoise Club in maintaining a high level of ethical conduct. They are to be professional standards which each and every Society member is expected to follow. Failure to abide by this Code of Ethics may result in membership termination.
Section 1: Society members shall encourage and promote an appreciation of turtles and tortoises in the ecosystem and the need for their conservation.
Section 2: Society members shall not engage in or encourage activities that may diminish, or in any other way, discredit the Society and its purposes as set forth in the Constitution and its By-Laws.
Section 3: Society members shall uphold the dignity of the science of herpetology and shall not encourage unethical conduct of fellow members.
Section 4: Society members shall observe local, state and federal wildlife protection, collection and possession laws.
Section 5: When maintaining turtles and tortoises in captivity, Society members are expected to provide adequate care and humane treatment for all specimens, including prey animals.
Section 6: No Society member shall obstruct or inhibit the rights or privileges of another member, except as outlined in the Articles of the Constitution and its By-Laws.
